Lord – and compounds using Lord

Lord, Lord...

 Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter into the Kingdom of Heaven; but he who does the will of my Father who is in Heaven. 22 Many will tell Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, didn’t we prophesy in your name, in your name cast out demons, and in your name do many mighty works?’ 23 Then I will tell them, ‘I never knew you. Depart from Me, you who work iniquity.’
Matthew 7.21-23

    There are literally thousands of verses in virtually every English translation of The Bible that use the term “Lord” in them. Most people do not know that almost every one of them is incorrectly "translated". In reality, it's not a translation at all. The term, in most cases, is a complete substitution for what should be translated there.

    God has a personal name. It is YAHWEH. Almost every time you see "the Lord" in the Old Testament the proper name, YAHWEH, is given in the Hebrew text. There are only a few exceptions that involve the actual Hebrew word adonay. But what's really appalling is that the personal name of God, YAHWEH, has been removed from most bibles - intentionally. This should cause you great concern. It means countless translators  have taken the liberty of altering the text of The Word of YAHWEH. This is tragic.

    "Lord" is a title; it's not a name. In the following list of titles using "Lord", you will see for yourself what has been done to the original Hebrew as it has been “transferred” to English. It's not correct to say it’s been “translated”, because that is really not accurate. You can’t even say its been “transliterated”. Neither of those terms can be applied accurately to what has been done. See Definitions…

    A translation involves putting one text into different words (i.e. a different language), or interpreting the text (hopefully as faithfully to the concept of the original as possible). A transliteration involves writing the words or characters of one language in a manner that accurately represents the same sound as that found in the original language. In the case of the use of “Lord” in our English bible versions the text has been corrupted. This has been done deliberately. While there are many arguments given for why this has been done, none of them are ultimately valid - at all. What's been done is a complete and flagrant violation of the Third Commandment, which states, "You shall not take the NAME of YAHWEH, your  Elohim (In English - The Lord your God) in vain, for YAHWEH  ("The Lord") will not hold him guiltless who takes His NAME in vain. Exodus 20.7

    That's pretty serious stuff! I can't help but wonder how and why this could ever be justified, especially in the Twentieth Century and the Twenty-First Century with all the analytical language tools we have available to us. We have countless reference books in countless languages that we can review to determine The Truth. Yet The Truth is not being told to the followers of YAHWEH and His Messiah, YAHUSHUA (Jesus - another perversion) in most cases. The church is being deceived! May YAHWEH have mercy on us!

    Below I've listed the majority of the abuses of this terminology, including compound terms involving "Lord", for you to look at for yourself. Just in case you think I'm making this up, verify for yourself what's been done. For additional clarification of this issue, please read the pages on Serious Bible Errors...

Lord

    This term appears in the KJV Bible a total of 7,836 times

    It is used for a total of 9 different Hebrew and 5 different Greek words.

    At least 7231 of them are incorrect. That should get your attention.

    Not all of them refer to “god”. With 14 different words involved, it is simply not possible to use one word for all of the original words and even begin to convey the actual meanings that were intended. What has resulted is a tragic confounding of the original text. Sadly, most people have no idea their bible is wrong! If you search The Scriptures you will discover who the author of confusion is. This abuse of language is strictly of The Devil, Satan. It needs to be corrected – immediately.

    Prov. 30:5 Every word of Eloah (God) is pure: He is a shield to them that put their trust in Him. (6) Add not to His words, lest He reprove you, and you be found a liar.

    John 8:44 You are of your father, The Devil, and you want to do the desires of your father. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks on his own; for he is a liar, and the father of it.

    1Cor. 14:33 For YAHWEH (God) is not the author of confusion, but of peace,

    Here’s the way the word "lord" is “translated" in the King James version of the bible. Please take note of the variations in type-styles as well as the variations in the original words from which “lord” was somehow placed in the bible in English. The numbers given are from Strong’s Exhaustive Concordance.

Lord - from Adonay

    This is actually a subset of the information above, but it’s an important subset. I’ve included it as a separate item so you can see how it was "translated". The explanation of the term as found in Strong’s Exhaustive Concordance is provided so you can see for yourself what it should mean, and how it should therefore be used.

    Please note that even James Strong, one of the most respected of biblical scholars, got it wrong. What he wrote was based on the “traditions of men”, not on The Word of YAHWEH. The Hebrew for adonay and its variations clearly means a ruler, a sovereign (See Definitions…).

    Please remember that the words presented after the (--) in Strong’s definitions are the words used in the KJV translation. They are not actually part of the definition of the term, but rather are what the “translators” chose to use to represent the original word as it suited them in any given verse. This is very important to understand.
    Wherever
adonay/adonai is used in the original when referring to YAHWEH it should read sovereign in order to be more correct.

136. yÎnOdSa }Adonay, ad-o-noy´; an emphatic form of 113; the Lord (used as a proper name of God only): —(my) Lord.

NOTE: This is an improper usage – this is not a proper name for God, as Strong suggests. His name is YAHWEH.

113. NwødDa }adown, aw-done´; or (shortened) NOdDa }adon, aw-done´; from an unused root (meaning to rule); sovereign, i.e. controller (human or divine): —lord, master, owner. Compare also names beginning with “Adoni-”.

Here's how it was "translated" into English in the KJV:

      God = 1

            H0136  ’Adonay  yÎnOdSa = 1

      lord = 2

            H0136  ’Adonay  yÎnOdSa = 2

      Lord = 430

            H0136  ’Adonay  yÎnOdSa = 429

            H0136  ’Adonay  yÎnOdSa (variant) = 1

            H3068  Yhwh  hDwøh◊y (variant)

      Lord’s = 1

            H0136  ’Adonay   yÎnOdSa = 1

       God  (1)

            (common word)

Lord - from YAH / JAH

    This is also a subset of the word “Lord” given above. It occurs 49 times in the KJV, but only once is it used as it should be. And that usage is actually not properly done either. It occurs in Psalm 68.4, given below. You’ll note that it’s “translated” as JAH, not as YAHH, or YAH – which is the proper translation (or transliteration) of the word. There has never been a "J" in the Hebrew language. See Letter J… This means that out of the 49 times it is translated, every one of them is incorrect.

Psa. 68:4 Sing unto Eloihn (God), sing praises to His name: extol Him who rides upon the heavens by His name, JAH, and rejoice before Him.

3050. ;hÎy Yahh, yaw; contraction for 3068, and meaning the same; Jah, the sacred name:—Jah, the Lord, most vehement. Compare names in “-iah,” “-jah.” [Occurs only here in the KJV.]

3068. hDwøh◊y Yhwh; from 1961; (the) self-Existent or Eternal; name of God:—the Lord. Compare 3050, 3069.

The first time it appears in the Scriptures is as follows:

Ex. 15:2 YAHH (The LORD) is my strength and song, and He is become my salvation (yshuwah): he is my God (el), and I will prepare Him a habitation; my father’s God (elohim), and I will exalt Him.

Note: There are problems with this translation.  Here's a more clear version of the text:

“Yahh is my strength and my song, and this El (Mighty One) has become salvation (yshuwah) to me, and I will praise Him; my father’s El (God), and I will exalt Him.”

3050. ;hÎy Yahh, yaw; contraction for 3068, and meaning the same; Jah, the sacred name: —Jah, the Lord, most vehement. Compare names in “-iah,” “-jah.”

3068. hDwøh◊y Yhwh; from 1961; (the) self-Existent or Eternal; name of God: —the Lord. Compare 3050, 3069.

3444. hDo…wv◊y yshuw{ah, yesh-oo´-aw; feminine passive participle of 3467; something saved, i.e. (abstractly) deliverance; hence, aid, victory, prosperity: —deliverance, health, help(-ing), salvation, save, saving (health), welfare.

Lord God – from YAHWEH, with Elohim, or Adonay

    This combination of words occurs 546 times in the  KJV bible. The breakdown of its usage, given below, provides an interesting perspective. It only occurs 13 times in the New Testament. The rest of the occurrences, 533, are in the Old Testament. It occurs for the first time in Genesis 2.4, which is quoted below.

    It’s important to note that the only term presented in Scripture prior to this is Elohim. Elohim is a plural term that represents the unified nature, the oneness, of The Creator. There are many opinions on what this really means. It is not within the scope of this section to present a detailed analysis of those opinions. However, it's my personal belief that Elohim in Genesis 1.1 refers to “the only existing elohim”. When you review Strong’s definitions of the terms and consider the root sources involved, it appears to me that elohim refers to “The Mighty One”, the only “Mighty One”.

    From our perspective as created beings, there was no other “god” in existence at the very beginning except the One who created all things. Because of this there was no need to differentiate between Him and any “other elohim”, for no other elohim existed in the created realm at that stage. Indeed, no other elohim actually exists today. YAHWEH alone is Elohim (God). This is verified by Scripture.

As - YAHWEH Elohim

    We then come to Genesis 2.4 where we find a new term introduced, YHWH (Hebrew has no lower case letters; it is only written in upper case letters. Only its translsiteration into English allowed the later use of lower case letters.) That this is the very same Elohim that created the earth and the heavens seems quite clear from the text, and from the context.

    The introduction of the term, YHWH, in English known as YAHWEH, establishes a specificity to the identification of the original Elohim that remains consistent throughout the rest of Scripture (in the Hebrew, at least). It appears no other identification was needed for those involved in the history of the creation from this point forward. From the perspective or Scripture, YHWH is the only Elohim.

    YHWH is identified by James Strong as “(the) self-Existent or Eternal.” He correctly identifies this word as the “name of God”. (He perhaps should have noted that this meant “the name of The Only Elohim”.) This is vital to our appreciation of Scripture. The Word of YAHWEH presents us with the concept that there is only one Supreme Being; that there has never been another being that can in any manner compare to that Supreme Being; and that His personal name is YAHWEH. (See Exodus 3.13-15 to confirm this. Be careful to look at the actual Hebrew terms used,not the English.)

    This means that any other “elohim” is not YAHWEH. Nor is any other being or thing that is referred to as an elohim, eloah, el, or other similar term is any kind of a “god” at all, really. They are sometimes referred to as such, but there can be only one Supreme Being. By the very nature of the term itself, there can be no other. Supreme means at the top, the highest in authority over all that exists. Supreme means there is nothing higher.

    With this as background, the term YAHWEH Elohim takes on the connotation of “The Eternally Existing Supreme Being”. He is the mightiest of the mighty, the most powerful, the supreme elohim, ‘god’, who is above every other thing that exists. It is this understanding that is presented clearly in The Scriptures. When one considers carefully the entirety of The Word of YAHWEH it is clear that this in the intent. To acknowledge less than this is to “take the name of YAHWEH in vain”. Unfortunately, this is exactly what has happened as human beings attempted to interpret the meaning of the term, Elohim, and could only use their current level of understanding to attempt to comprehend the incomprehensible YAHWEH - and His Word.

Ex. 20:7  “You shall not take the name of Yahweh your Elohim (God) in vain, for Yahweh will not hold him guiltless who takes His name in vain.

Deut. 5:11  “You shall not take the name of Yahweh your Elohim (God) in vain: for Yahweh will not hold Him guiltless who takes his name in vain.

Psa. 139:20 For they speak against You wickedly. Your enemies take Your name in vain.

Gen. 2:4 These are the generations of the heavens and of the earth when they were created, in the day that YAHWEH, the Mighty One, (YAHWEH Elohim - the LORD God) made the earth and the heavens,

3068. hDwøh◊y Yhwh; from 1961; (the) self-Existent or Eternal; name of God: —the Lord. Compare 3050, 3069.

430. MyIhølTa }elohiym, el-o-heem´; plural of 433; gods in the ordinary sense; but specifically used (in the plural thus, especially with the article) of the supreme God; occasionally applied by way of deference to magistrates; and sometimes as a superlative: —angels, x exceeding, God (gods)(-dess, -ly), x (very) great, judges, x mighty.

433. ;AhwølTa }elowahh, el-o´-ah; rarely (shortened) ;AhølTa }eloahh, el-o´-ah} probably prolonged (emphat.) from 410; a deity or the Deity:—God, god. See 430.

410. lEa }el, ale; shortened from 352; strength; as adjective, mighty; especially the Almighty (but used also of any deity):—God (god), x goodly, x great, idol, might(-y one), power, strong. Compare names in “-el.”

352. lˆyAa }ayil, ah´-yil; from the same as 193; properly, strength; hence, anything strong; specifically a chief (politically); also a ram (from his strength); a pilaster (as a strong support); an oak or other strong tree:—mighty (man), lintel, oak, post, ram, tree.

193. l…wa }uwl, ool; from an unused root meaning to twist, i.e. (by implication) be strong; the body (as being rolled together); also powerful:—mighty, strength.

    Here is how the terms are used in the KJV bible. This list does not tell us how many times each term is used with the other, but it does give us some perspective on the usage. I’ll treat the combination of YHWH with adonay, or adon, in a moment.

  LORD = 1

            (No Key number) = 1

  Lord = 545

           G1203  despotes  despo/thß  = 1

            G2962  kurios  ku/rioß  = 12

            H0113  ’adown, ’adon  aDdøwN, aDdON = 2

            H0136  ’Adonay  aSdOnÎy = 301

            H3068  Yhwh  y◊høwDh = 227

            H3069  Yhwh  y◊høwIh = 1

  God = 546

            G2316  theos  qeo/ß  = 13

            H0136  ’Adonay  aSdOnÎy = 1

            H0410  ’el  aEl = 6

            H0430  ’elohiym  aTløhIyM = 224

            H3068  Yhwh  y◊høwDh = 2

            H3069  Yhwh  y◊høwIh = 300

As Adon YAHWEH, or Adonay YAHWEH

    The first time this combination occurs is in Genesis 15.2. Abram (he is not yet Abraham) addreses YAHWEH as “adon YHWH”. James Strong misapplies his own definitions in this case. When you look at the Hebrew meanings you discover “adon”, the term found in the Hebrew text, is notadonay”. It is from Strong’s number 113, not from 136. As such, it carries the denotation of “sovereign”, one who rules over you.

    A sovereign, or ruler, is one to whom one submits as being inferior in power or authority. This is the characterization presented in Abram’s request. He is clearly surrendered to the sovereign power of YAHWEH. He refers to him as “my sovereign”. Then he speaks His name, YAHWEH. Sovereign is a title. YAHWEH is His name. His name is not “Lord GOD”.

    Based on the principle of first mention, a widely held understanding that imports extra meaning to the first usage of a word in Scripture, this becomes the basis by which we are helped to interpret future occurrences of these terms. It will be noted that “adon/adonay” is a title, and it is not a name. And it refers to the sovereignty of YAHWEH over all things.

Gen. 15:2  And Abram said, my sovereign, YAHWEH (adon, YAHWEH – Lord GOD), what will you give me, seeing I go childless, and the steward of my house is this Eliezer of Damascus?

136. yÎnOdSa }Adonay, ad-o-noy´; an emphatic form of 113; the Lord (used as a proper name of God only): —(my) Lord.

    Note: This is an improper usage – this is not a proper name for God.

113. NwødDa }adown, aw-done´; or (shortened)  NOdDa }adon, aw-done´; from an unused root (meaning to rule); sovereign, i.e. controller (human or divine): —lord, master, owner. Compare also names beginning with “Adoni-”.

    We would do well to consider these two terms carefully when we encounter them. It seems the concept of “Sovereign YAHWEH” is the essential meaning. However, the context will also need to be checked to confirm the intended actual usage. The problem with this lies in the reality that English “translations” have adulterated The Word of YAHWEH, making it rather difficult to sort out. One needs to get some reference materials in order to successfully determine what you really are dealing with.

Lord Your God  or  Lord Thy God

    This language is merely a subset of the above discussion of YAHWEH Elohim and Adonay YAHWEH. Most of them occur in the Old Testament, while approximately nine of them occur in the New Testament.

Lord of Hosts – YAHWEH tsebaot/tsaba (sebaoth, sabaoth)

    This is a very interesting title. It is most certainly not a name in its compound form, as so many try to make it. It is a description of an attribute of YAHWEH. Lord is a mistranslation of the text, as we have already seen in so many other cases. The Hebrew plainly writes y◊høwDh, YHWH. Thus, it is YAHWEH of hosts, if you accept the common understanding of aDbDx tsaba}. It is typically translated as “host”, or “army”. The Strong’s defintion is given below for your reference.

6635. aDbDx tsaba}, tsaw-baw´; or (feminine) hDaDbVx tsbadah, tseb-aw-aw´; from 6633; a mass of persons (or figuratively, things), especially reg. organized for war (an army); by implication, a campaign, literally or figuratively (specifically, hardship, worship): —appointed time, (+) army, (+) battle, company, host, service, soldiers, waiting upon, war(-fare).

6633. aDbDx tsaba}, tsaw-baw´; a primitive root; to mass (an army or servants): —assemble, fight, perform, muster, wait upon, war.

    Please note that it is translated as sabaoth in the Greek New Testament in the following two verses. The Greek refers us to the Hebrew concept, and gives us the Hebrew Strong’s Number for reference, so it's referring to the very same word we have here.

    Rom. 9:29 And as Esaias said before, Except YAHWEH of Assemblies had left us a seed, we would have
    been as Sodom, and been made like Gomorrha.

    James 5:4 Indeed the wages of the laborers who mowed your fields, which you kept back by fraud, cry
    out; and the cries of the reapers have reached the ears of YAHWEH of Assemblies.

4519. sabaw¿q sabaoth, sab-ah-owth´; of Hebrew origin (H6635 in feminine plural); armies; sabaoth (i.e. tsebaoth), a military epithet of God: — sabaoth.

Now, if we consider the principle of first usage the Hebrew term aDbDx tsaba}, is found for the first time in Genesis 2.1.

    Gen. 2:1 The heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them.

    Webster’s New World Dictionary defines host as an army; a multitude; great number. For a synonym it suggests one look at “crowd”. There is clearly more than one meaning for “host”. In this very first instance it appears the reference is to the entire “assembly”, or “mass number of things” that were part of the creation Elohim has just completed. This could properly be called “the whole assembly of them.”

    Let’s look at how this term is used elsewhere. It occurs 486 tines in the KJV Bible. While many of the references end up relating to armies and warfare, many of them do not carry that connotation at all. In fact, if you check the occurrences you will find a great many relating to the assembly of worshippers who gather to praise YAHWEH.

      appointed = 1

            H6635  tsaba’, tsbadah  hDaDbVx ,aDbDx = 1

           H6635  tsaba’, tsbadah  hDaDbVx ,aDbDx = 1

           H6635  tsaba’, tsbadah  hDaDbVx ,aDbDx = 2

      waiting = 1

           H6635  tsaba’, tsbadah  hDaDbVx ,aDbDx = 1

      war = 41

           H6635  tsaba’, tsbadah  hDaDbVx ,aDbDx = 41

      warfare = 2

           H6635  tsaba’, tsbadah  hDaDbVx ,aDbDx = 2

    Now, having set forth this concept, let’s take a closer look at “The Lord of Hosts”, literally, YAHWEH tsebaoth. It occurs for the very first time in 1. Sam. 1.3.

    1Sam. 1:3 This man (Elkanah) went up out of his city from year to year to worship and to sacrifice to Yahweh of Hosts in Shiloh. The two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas, priests to Yahweh, were there.

    The Hebrew says, twäøaDbVx h¶DwhyAl, which, which is typically translated as - to, or unto, YAHWEH of hosts. Because of the Hebrew construction involved in the usage of these two nouns, the first is the “possessor” of the second. What’s important in this passage, being the first occurrence of the compound terms, is that there is no reference to armies or warfare involved. Elkanah is going up to Shiloh, to the place where the Ark of The Covenant is, and therefore to the place where YAHWEH’s name and presence are noted. This is the place of “the assembly”, the congregation of Israel.

    Eliyahu (Elihu in English – means YAH of him, or God of him) is the father of Elkanah (meaning YAH has created, or obtained). Elkanah is going up to perform his yearly worship and sacrifice in Shiloh, in the presence of YAHWEH. He is going up to “The Assembly of YAHWEH, not to the army of YAHWEH.

    From this and other references of a very similar nature it appears we should be careful to tranlsate this term as YAHWEH of Assemblies, instead of YAHWEH of Hosts. He is, after all The Head of any assembly among the nation of Israel, and especially of its religious assemblies. The assembly consisted of those who were “called out”.

    If you check your terminology you soon discover that in Israel there was not a “congregation”, there was an assembly. Even the New Testament term for “church”, ecclesia, means a called out assembly. Thus, Lord of Hosts should read more properly, depending on the context, YAHWEH of Assemblies when referring to worship, and perhaps YAHWEH of armies when referring to armies and warfare. These references are descriptions of attributes of YAHWEH, not names for Him.

Lord God of Hosts - YAHWEH Elohim tsaba

    This phrase occurs 29 times in the KJV. Based on our discussion above it should read YAHWEH, Elohim of Assemblies, or, YAHWEH, Elohim of armies, depending on the context for its proper interpretation.

Lord Jehovah – YAHH YAHWEH

    This combination is given with this translation only twice in the KJV Bible. Both verses are shown below. We’ve already identified the incorrectness of “Jehovah”, so this is not a proper translation of the Hebrew. It should read “YAHH YAHWEH”. Strong identifies YAHH as an emphatic form of YAHWEH, calling it “most emphatic”. It would therefore be a very emphatic declaration of the name as it relates to our trust in YAHWEH as the only source of salvation.

    Is. 12:2 Behold, El (God) is my salvation; I will trust, and not be afraid: for Yahh YAHWEH (very emphatic -

the LORD JEHOVAH) is my strength and my song; He also is become my salvation (yshuwah)

Is. 26:4 Trust ye in YAHWEH (the LORD) forever (eternity): for in YAHH YAHWEH (Yahu Yahweh - very
    emphatic -
the LORD JEHOVAH) is everlasting (eternal) strength:

3050. ;hÎy Yahh, yaw; contraction for 3068, and meaning the same; Jah, the sacred name: —Jah, the Lord, most vehement. Compare names in “-iah,” “-jah.”

3068. hDwøh◊y Yhwh; from 1961; (the) self-Existent or Eternal; name of God: —the Lord. Compare 3050, 3069.

Lord, Our Righteousness – YAHWEH tsidqenuw

    Here we have yet another of the titles of YAHWEH. He is our righteousness, and we can have no righteousness without Him. The phrase is not His name. His name is YAHWEH. His title, if you will call it that, is “our rightesouness”. It is improper to translate it as a name, and it is incorrect to translate YAHWEH as “Lord”.

    Jer. 23:6 In his days Judah shall be saved, and Israel shall dwell safely: and this is what He shall be
    called, YAHWEH (
THE LORD), OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS

    Jer. 33:16 In those days they shall be saved of Judah, and Jerusalem shall dwell securely: and this is
    what He shall be called, YAHWEH (
The LORD), our righteousness.

3072. wnéq√dIx hDwøh◊y Yhwh tsidqenuw, yhwh tsid-kay´-noo; from 3068 and 6664 with pronominal suffix; Yhwh (is) our right; Yhwh-Tsidkenu, a symbolical epithet of the Messiah and of Jerusalem: —the Lord our righteousness.

3068. hDwøh◊y Yhwh; from 1961; (the) self-Existent or Eternal; name of God: —the Lord. Compare 3050, 3069.

6664. q®dRx tsedeq, tseh´-dek; from 6663; the right (natural, moral or legal); also (abstractly) equity or (figuratively) prosperity: —x even, (x that which is altogether) just(-ice), ((un-)) right(-eous) (cause, -ly, -ness).

Lord your Maker - YAHWEH, your Maker

    Like the term above, this is an incorrect translation of YAHWEH as “Lord”, and this is also a title at best, or a description of one of the atrributes of YAHWEH. Note that it also makes YAHWEH our Creator (Maker), further confirming the view that Elohim as presented in Genesis 1.1 is identical with YAHWEH. He is the only “Elohim” (God).

    Is. 51:13 And forget YAHWEH your Maker, who has stretched forth the heavens, and laid the foundations
    of the earth; you have feared continually every day because of the fury of the oppressor, as if he were
    ready to destroy? And where
is the fury of the oppressor?
    Is. 54:5 For your Maker is your husband; YAHWEH of the assembly (the LORD of hosts) is his name; and
    your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel; The Sovereign (
elohei - God) of the whole earth shall He be
    called.

6213. hDcDo {asah, aw-saw´; a primitive root; to do or make, in the broadest sense and widest application (as follows): —accomplish, advance, appoint, apt, be at, become, bear, bestow, bring forth, bruise, be busy, x certainly, have the charge of, commit, deal (with), deck, + displease, do, (ready) dress(-ed), (put in) execute(-ion), exercise, fashion, + feast, (fight-)ing man, + finish, fit, fly, follow, fulfill, furnish, gather, get, go about, govern, grant, great, + hinder, hold ((a feast)), x indeed, + be industrious, + journey, keep, labor, maintain, make, be meet, observe, be occupied, offer, + officer, pare, bring (come) to pass, perform, practice, prepare, procure, provide, put, requite, x sacrifice, serve, set, show, x sin, spend, x surely, take, x thoroughly, trim, x very, + vex, be (warr-)ior, work(-man), yield, use.

Lord, your Redeemer - Yahweh, Your Redeemer

    Once again we have a title, not a name. YAHWEH is your redeemer. It has always been so, and always will be so. Only in Him do we have redemption. Note that we have given the proper rendering below with added punctuation to separate the name from the description for clarity.

    Is. 44:24 Thus says YAHWEH (the LORD), your redeemer, and He that formed you from the womb, I am
    YAHWEH (the LORD) that makes all things; that stretches forth the heavens alone; that spreads abroad
    the earth by myself;

    Is. 48:17 Thus says YAHWEH (the LORD), your redeemer, the Holy One of Israel; I am YAHWEH (the
    LORD) your Sovereign (
elohiym – God) who teaches you to profit, who leads you by the way you should
    go.

    Is. 54:8 In a little wrath I hid My face from you for a moment; but with everlasting kindness will I have
    mercy on you, says YAHWEH (the
LORD), your redeemer.

1350. lAa…Îg ga}al, gaw-al´; a primitive root, to redeem (according to the Oriental law of kinship), i.e. to be the next of kin (and as such to buy back a relative’s property, marry his widow, etc.): —x in any wise, x at all, avenger, deliver, (do, perform the part of near, next) kinsfolk(-man), purchase, ransom, redeem(-er), revenger.

Lord of Lords - Special Case

    Deut. 10:17 For the LORD your God is God of gods, and Lord of lords, a great God, a mighty, and a
    terrible, which regards not persons, nor takes a reward.

This should read, based on the original Hebrew text:

Deut. 10:17 For YAHWEH your Elohiym, He is Elohiym of the elohiyms and Sovereign of the sovereigns - The El, The Great (gadowl) One, The Mighty (gibbor) One, and The Feared One (nora – from yare) - who shows no partiality, nor takes a bribe:

     The sequence of terms is: The Lord - Yahweh, your God - elohim, God - elohim, gods - elohim, Lord - adonei, Lords - adomim, God – el. HEre are the definitions for those terms.

113. NwødDa }adown, aw-done´; or (shortened) NOdDa }adon, aw-done´; from an unused root (meaning to rule); sovereign, i.e. controller (human or divine): —lord, master, owner. Compare also names beginning with “Adoni-”.

410. lEa }el, ale; shortened from 352; strength; as adjective, mighty; especially the Almighty (but used also of any deity): —God (god), x goodly, x great, idol, might(-y one), power, strong. Compare names in “-el.”

1419. lwød…Îg gadowl, gaw-dole´; or (shortened) lOd…Îg gadol, gaw-dole´; from 1431; great (in any sense); hence, older; also insolent: —+ aloud, elder(-est), + exceeding(-ly), + far, (man of) great (man, matter, thing,-er,-ness), high, long, loud, mighty, more, much, noble, proud thing, x sore, (x ) very.

1368. rwø;b…ˆg gibbowr, ghib-bore´; or (shortened) r;Ob…ˆg gibbor, ghib-bore´; intensive from the same as 1397; powerful; by implication, warrior, tyrant: —champion, chief, x excel, giant, man, mighty (man, one), strong (man), valiant man.

3372. aérÎy yare}, yaw-ray´; a primitive root; to fear; morally, to revere; cause to frighten: —affright, be (make) afraid, dread(-ful), (put in) fear(-ful, -fully, -ing), (be had in) reverence(-end), x see, terrible (act, -ness, thing).

    It's clear in this verse that YAHWEH is His name, and the rest merely describes His characteristics.
    His name is not “The Lord”. It is not “Lord”. It is not “Elohim”. It is not “Adonai/adonim”. It is not “El”. It is not “The Great One”. It is not “The Mighty One”. It is not “The Feared One”.
    Those may be seen as
titles, but they are not names. His name is YAHWEH. It is His proper personal name, YAHWEH, that we are to honor, to magnify, to bless, to consider as holy, and to proclaim with our praises.

Let’s get it right, for His name's sake. Hallelu-YAH! In English, Praise YAHWEH!

May YAHWEH speak to your heart and bless you with understanding as you explore His Word.
