There is much attention being given to angels in various books and media these days. Much of it is not what YAHWEH's Word teaches about these unusual beings. They have some very unique attributes and tasks. But if you truly want to know more about them, the real angels, and not those masquerading as angels of light, read what YAHWEH''s Word teaches concerning them in the following passages.
Most people do not understand there are two types of angels - those that belong to YAHWEH, and those that belong to Satan, or Lucifer - the chief of the "fallen angels". Not every angel you may hear about is a "good" angel. At the end of the list of scriptures dealing with Yahweh's good angels is a list of scriptures dealing with the "fallen angels" - the ones who rebelled against Him, along with Lucifer. He was originally the most beautiful of all the angels and ruled them all prior to his fall. That fall was the result of His rebellion against YAHWEH, and his arrogance - wherein he sought to actually become YAHWEH.
Angels were created by Yahweh:
Nehemiah 9:6: You alone are YAHWEH. You have made heaven, the heaven of heavens, with all their host, the earth and everything on it, the seas and all that is in them, and You preserve them all. The host of heaven worships You.
Colossians 1:16: (speaking of The Messiah - Christ) For by Him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by Him, and for Him: 17 And He is before all things, and by Him all things consist.
Angels worship YAHWEH and YAHUSHUA:
Nehemiah 9:6: – above
Philippians 2:9-11: Therefore YAHWEH also has highly exalted Him, and given Him a name which is above every name: 10 That at the name of YAHUSHUA every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; 11 And that every tongue should confess that YAHUSHUA, the Messiah is Sovereign, to the glory of YAHWEH the Father.
Hebrews 1:5: For unto which of the angels said he at any time, You are my Son, this day have I begotten you? And again, I will be to Him a Father, and He shall be to me a Son? 6 And again, when He brings in the firstbegotten into the world, he says, And let all the angels of Yahweh worship Him. 7 And of the angels he says, Who makes His angels spirits, and His ministers a flame of fire.
Angels are not worthy of worship:
Colossians 2.18: Let no man beguile you of your reward in voluntary humility and worshiping of angels, intruding into those things which he has not seen, vainly puffed up by his fleshly mind 19 and not holding the Head, from which all the body by joints and bands having nourishment ministered, and knit together, increases with the increase of YAHWEH.
Revelation 19.10: And I fell at his feet to worship him. And he said unto me, See you do it not: I am your fellow servant, and of your brothers that have the testimony of YAHUSHUA: worship YAHWEH: for the testimony of YAHUSHUA is the spirit of prophecy.
Revelation 22.8: And I John saw these things, and heard them. And when I had heard and seen, I fell down to worship before the feet of the angel which shewed me these things. 9 Then saith he unto me, See you do it not: for I am your fellowservant, and of your brothers the prophets, and of them that keep the sayings of this book: worship YAHWEH.
Angels are ministering spirits:
1Kings 19:5: And as he lay and slept under a juniper tree, behold, then an angel touched him, and said unto him, Arise and eat. 6 And he looked, and, behold, there was a cake baked on the coals, and a cruse of water at his head. And he did eat and drink, and laid himself down again. 7 And the Angel of YAHWEH came again the second time, and touched him, and said, Arise and eat; because the journey is too great for you. 8 And he arose, and did eat and drink, and went in the strength of that meat forty days and forty nights unto Horeb the mount of Yahweh.
Psalms 104:4: Who makes His angels spirits; His ministers a flaming fire.
Acts 12:7: And, behold, the Angel of YAHWEH came upon him, and a light shone in the prison: and he struck Peter on the side, and raised him up, saying, Arise up quickly. And his chains fell off from his hands. 8 And the angel said unto him, Gird yourself, and bind on your sandals. And so he did. And he said unto him, Cast your garment around you, and follow me. 9 And he went out, and followed him; and knew not that it was true which was done by the angel; but thought he saw a vision. 10 When they were past the first and the second ward, they came unto the iron gate that leads unto the city; which opened to them of his own accord: and they went out, and passed on through one street; and immediately the angel departed from him. 11 And when Peter had come to himself, he said, Now I know of a surety, that YAHWEH has sent His angel, and has delivered me out of the hand of Herod, and from all the expectation of the people of the Jews.
Acts 27:23: For there stood by me this night the angel of YAHWEH, whose I am, and whom I serve, 24 Saying, Fear not, Paul; thou must be brought before Caesar: and, lo, Yahweh has given you all them that sail with you.
Hebrews 1:13: But to which of the angels did He say at any time, Sit on my right hand, until I make your enemies your footstool? 14 Are they not all ministering spirits, sent forth to minister for them who shall be heirs of salvation?
Angels communicate the will of YAHWEH and YAHUSHUA:
Daniel 8:15: And it came to pass, when I, even I Daniel, had seen the vision, and sought for the meaning, then, behold, there stood before me one as the appearance of a man. 16 And I heard a man’s voice between the banks of Ulai, which called, and said, Gabriel, make this man to understand the vision. 17 So he came near where I stood: and when he came, I was afraid, and fell upon my face: but he said unto me, Understand, O son of man: for at the time of the end shall be the vision.
Daniel 9:21-23: Indeed, while I was speaking in prayer, even the man Gabriel, whom I had seen in the vision at the beginning, being caused to fly swiftly, touched me about the time of the evening oblation. 22 And he informed me, and talked with me, and said, O Daniel, I am now come forth to give you skill and understanding.
Matthew 2:13: And when they were departed, behold, the Angel of YAHWEH appeared to Joseph in a dream, saying, Arise, and take the young child and His mother, and flee into Egypt, and you be there until I bring you word: for Herod will seek the young child to destroy Him.
Matthew 2:19: But when Herod was dead, behold, an angel of YAHWEH appeared in a dream to Joseph in Egypt, 20 Saying, Arise, and take the young child and His mother, and go into the land of Israel: for they are dead which sought the young child’s life.
Luke 1:19 And the angel answering said unto him, I am Gabriel, that stand in the presence of YAHWEH; and am sent to speak unto you, and to show you these glad tidings.
Luke 1:26: And in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from YAHWEH unto a city of Galilee, named Nazareth, 27 to a virgin engaged to a man whose name was Joseph (Yoseph), of the house of David; and the virgin’s name was Miryam (Mary). 28 And the angel came in unto her, and said, Hail, you who are highly favored, YAHWEH is with you. Blessed are you among women. 29 And when she saw him, she was troubled at his saying, and wondered in her mind what manner of salutation this was. 30 And the angel said unto her, Fear not, Mary: for you have found favor with YAHWEH. 31 And, behold, you shall conceive in your womb, and bring forth a son, and shall call His name YAHUSHUA. 32 He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest: and YAHWEH Elohim shall give to Him the throne of His father David: 33 And He shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of His kingdom there shall be no end. 34 Then Miryam (Mary) said to the angel, "How shall this be, seeing I know not a man?" 35 And the angel answered and said unto her, "The Holy Spirit shall come upon you, and the Power of the Highest shall overshadow you: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of you shall be called the Son of YAHWEH."
Acts 8:26: And the Angel of YAHWEH spoke to Philip, saying, "Arise, and go toward the south to the way that goes down from Jerusalem unto Gaza, which is desert." 27 And he arose and went: and, behold, a man of Ethiopia, a eunuch of great authority under Candace queen of the Ethiopians, who had the charge of all her treasure, and had come to Jerusalem to worship, 28 was returning, and sitting in his chariot read Esaias (Isaiah) the prophet. 29 Then The Spirit said to Philip," Go near, and join yourself to this chariot."
Revelation 1:1: The Revelation of YAHUSHUA Ha Mashiach (The Messiah), which YAHWEH gave to Him, to show to His servants things which must shortly come to pass; and He sent and signified it by His angel to His servant John.
Angels obey the will of YAHWEH:
Psalms 103:20: Bless YAHWEH, you His angels, that excel in strength, that do His commandments, hearkening unto the voice of His word. 21 Bless YAHWEH, all you His assemblies; you ministers of His, that do His pleasure.
Matthew 6:10: Your kingdom come. Your will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.
Angels execute the purposes of YAHWEH:
Numbers 22:21: And Balaam rose up in the morning, and saddled his ass, and went with the princes of Moab. 22 And YAHWEH’s anger was kindled because he went: and the Angel of YAHWEH stood in the way as an adversary against him. Now he was riding upon his ass, and his two servants were with him. 23 And the ass saw the Angel of YAHWEH standing in the way, and his sword drawn in his hand. And the ass turned aside out of the way, and went into the field. And Balaam struck the ass, to turn her into the way. 24 But the Angel of YAHWEH stood in a path of the vineyards, a wall being on this side, and a wall on that side. 25 And when the ass saw the angel of YAHWEH, she thrust herself into the wall, and crushed Balaam’s foot against the wall: and he struck her again. 26 And the Angel of YAHWEH went further, and stood in a narrow place, where was no way to turn either to the right hand or to the left. 27 And when the ass saw the Angel of YAHWEH, she fell down under Balaam: and Balaam’s anger was kindled, and he struck the ass with a staff. 28 And YAHWEH opened the mouth of the ass, and she said unto Balaam, What have I done unto you, that you have smitten me these three times?
Matthew 13:41: The Son of man shall send forth His angels, and they shall gather out of His kingdom all things that offend, and them that do iniquity; 42 and shall cast them into a furnace of fire. There shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth.
Matthew 28:2: And, behold, there was a great earthquake: for the Angel of YAHWEH descended from heaven, and came and rolled back the stone from the door, and sat upon it. 3 His countenance was like lightning, and his raiment white as snow: 4 And for fear of him the keepers shook, and became as dead men. 5 And the angel answered and said unto the women, Fear not, for I know that you seek Yahshuah, who was crucified. 6 He is not here: for He is risen, as He said. Come, see the place where The Sovereign laid.
John 5:4: For an angel went down at a certain season into the pool, and troubled the water: whosoever then first after the troubling of the water stepped in was made whole of whatsoever disease he had.
Angels execute the judgments of YAHWEH:
2 Samuel 24:16: And when the angel stretched out his hand upon Jerusalem to destroy it, YAHWEH repented of the evil, and said to the angel that destroyed the people, "It is enough: stay now your hand." And the angel of YAHWEH was by the threshing place of Araunah the Jebusite. 17 And David spake unto YAHWEH when he saw the angel that smote the people, and said, "Look, I have sinned, and I have done wickedly: but these sheep, what have they done? Let Your hand, I pray You, be against me, and against my father’s house."
2 Kings 19:35: And it came to pass that night, that the Angel of YAHWEH went out and struck in the camp of the Assyrians an hundred and eighty-five thousand: and when they arose early in the morning, behold, they were all dead corpses.
Psalms 35:5: Let them be as chaff before the wind: and let the Angel of YAHWEH chase them. 6 Let their way be dark and slippery: and let the angel of YAHWEH persecute them.
Acts 12:23: And immediately the Angel of YAHWEH smote him, because he gave not YAHWEH the glory: and he was eaten of worms, and gave up the ghost.
Revelation 16:1: And I heard a great voice out of the temple saying to the seven angels, Go your ways, and pour out the vials of the wrath of YAHWEH upon the earth.
Angels Celebrate the praises of YAHWEH:
Isaiah 6:2: Above it stood the seraphims: each one had six wings; with two he covered his face, and with two he covered his feet, and with two he did fly. 3 And one cried unto another, and said, "Holy, holy, holy, is YAHWEH of Assemblies: the whole earth is full of His glory."
Luke 2:13: And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly assembly praising YAHWEH, and saying, 14 Glory to YAHWEH in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.
Revelation 5:11: And I beheld, and I heard the voice of many angels round about the throne and the beasts and the elders: and the number of them was ten thousand times ten thousand, and thousands of thousands; 12 Saying with a loud voice, Worthy is The Lamb that was slain to receive power, and riches, and wisdom, and strength, and honour, and glory, and blessing. 13 And every creature which is in heaven, and on the earth, and under the earth, and such as are in the sea, and all that are in them, heard I saying, Blessing, and honour, and glory, and power, be unto Him that sitteth upon the throne, and unto The Lamb for ever and ever.
Revelation 7:11: And all the angels stood round about the throne, and about the elders and the four beasts, and fell before the throne on their faces, and worshipped YAHWEH, 12 Saying, Amen: Blessing, and glory, and wisdom, and thanksgiving, and honour, and power, and might, be unto our Elohim for ever and ever. Amen.
The law was given by through the ministering of angels:
Acts 7:52: Which of the prophets have not your fathers persecuted? And they have slain them which showed before of the coming of the Just One; of whom you have been now the betrayers and murderers: 53 who have received the law by the disposition of angels, and have not kept it.
Hebrews 2:1: Therefore we ought to give the more earnest heed to the things which we have heard, lest at any time we should let them slip. 2 For if the word spoken by angels was stedfast, and every transgression and disobedience received a just recompence of reward; 3 How shall we escape, if we neglect so great salvation; which at the first began to be spoken by YAHWEH, and was confirmed unto us by them that heard Him; 4 YAHWEH also bearing them witness, both with signs and wonders, and with divers miracles, and gifts of the Holy Spirit, according to His own will? 5 For unto the angels has He not put in subjection the world to come, whereof we speak.
Angels announced the following events:
The conception of YAHUSHUA in Matthew 1:20-21 and Luke 1:31.
The birth of YAHUSHUA in Luke 2:10-12.
The resurrection of YAHUSHUA in Matthew 28:5-7 and Luke 24:23.
The ascension and second coming of YAHUSHUA in Acts 1:11.
The conception of John the Baptist in Luke 1:13 and 36.
Angels ministered to YAHUSHUA:
Matthew 4:11: Then the devil left Him, and, behold, angels came and ministered unto Him.
Luke 22:43: And there appeared an angel unto Him from heaven, strengthening Him.
John 1:51: And he said to him, "Verily, verily, I say unto you, Hereafter you shall see heaven open, and the angels of YAHWEH ascending and descending upon the Son of man."
Angels are subject to YAHUSHUA's authority:
Ephesians 1:19: And what is the exceeding greatness of His power toward us who believe, according to the working of His mighty power, 20 which He wrought in Messiah, when he raised Him from the dead, and set Him at His own right hand in the heavenly places, 21 far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world, but also in that which is to come: 22 And has put all things under His feet, and gave Him to be the head over all things to the church.
Colossians 1:16: For by Him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by Him, and for Him: 17 And He is before all things, and by Him all things consist.
Colossians 2:9: For in Him dwells all the fulness of the Godhead bodily. 10 And ye are complete in Him, who is the head of all principality and power.
1 Peter 3:21: YAHUSHUA, The Messiah: 22 who is gone into heaven, and is on the right hand of YAHWEH; angels and authorities and powers being made subject unto Him.
Angels will accompany YAHUSHUA at his second coming:
Matthew 25:31: When the Son of man shall come in his glory, and all the holy angels with Him, then shall He sit upon the throne of His glory:32 And before Him shall be gathered all nations: and He shall separate them one from another, as a shepherd divides his sheep from the goats:33 And He shall set the sheep on his right hand, but the goats on the left.
Mark 8:38: Whoever therefore shall be ashamed of Me and of My words in this adulterous and sinful generation; of him also shall the Son of Man be ashamed, when He comes in the glory of His Father with the holy angels.
2 Thessalonians 1:7: And to you who are troubled, rest with us, when the Sovereign, YAHUSHUA, shall be revealed from heaven with His mighty angels, 8 In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not YAHWEH and that obey not the gospel of our Sovereign, YAHUSHUA, The Messiah: 9 who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of YAHWEH, and from the glory of His power, 10 when He shall come to be glorified in His saints, and to be admired in all them that believe (because our testimony among you was believed) in that day.
Angels delight in the gospel of YAHUSHUA:
Ephesians 3:8: Unto me, who am less than the least of all saints, is this grace given, that I should preach among the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of The Messiah; 9 and to make all men see what is the fellowship of the mystery, which from the beginning of the world has been hidden in YAHWEH, who created all things by YAHUSHUA, The Messiah: 10 To the intent that now unto the principalities and powers in heavenly places might be known through the church the manifold wisdom of YAHWEH, 11 according to the eternal purpose which He purposed in The Messiah, YAHUSHUA our Sovereign, 12 In whom we have boldness and access with confidence through the faith of Him.
1Timothy 3:16: And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: YAHWEH was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory.
1Peter 1:12: Unto whom it was revealed, that not unto themselves, but unto us they did minister the things, which are now reported unto you by them that have preached the gospel unto you with the Holy Spirit sent down from heaven; which things the angels desire to look into.
Angels rejoice when one sinner repents:
Luke 15:10: Likewise, I say unto you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of YAHWEH over one sinner that repents.
Angels keep watch over the children of YAHWEH:
Psalms 34:7: The Angel of YAHWEH encamps round about those who fear Him, and delivers them.
Psalms 91:9: Because you have made YAHWEH, who is my refuge, even The Most High, your habitation 10 there shall no evil befall you; neither shall any plague come near your dwelling.11 For He shall give His angels charge over you, to keep you in all your ways. 12 They shall bear you up in their hands, lest you dash your foot against a stone.
Daniel 6:22: My elohim (god) has sent His angel, and has shut the lions’ mouths, that they have not hurt me: forasmuch as before Him innocency was found in me; and also before you, O king, have I done no hurt.
Matthew 18:10: Take heed that you despise not one of these little ones; for I say unto you, That in heaven their angels do always behold the face of My Father which is in heaven.
Angels belong to a different order of creation than man:
Isaiah 6:2: In the year that king Uzziah died I saw also YAHWEH sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up, and His train filled the temple. 2 Above it stood the seraphims: each one had six wings; with two he covered his face, and with two he covered his feet, and with two he did fly.
1 Thessalonians 4:16: For The Sovereign Himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of YAHWEH: and the dead in The Messiah shall rise first.
1 Peter 3:22: Who is gone into heaven, and is on the right hand of YAHWEH; angels and authorities and powers being made subject unto Him.
Jude 1:9: Yet Michael the archangel, when contending with the devil he disputed about the body of Moses, dared not bring against him a railing accusation, but said, YAHWEH rebuke you.
Revelation 12:7: And there was war in heaven. Michael and his angels fought against the dragon; and the dragon fought and his angels, 8 and prevailed not; neither was their place found any more in heaven.
Angels are innumerable:
Job 25:3: Is there any number of his armies?
Hebrews 12:22: But ye are come to Mount Sion, and unto the city of the Living Elohim, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to an innumerable company of angels.
These are the activities of God's true angels. If you encounter anything else rest assured it is not of Yahweh. There is another category of angels - see below.
FALLEN ANGELS:
Isaiah 14:12: How you are fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! How you are cut down to the ground, who weakened the nations! 13 For you have said in your heart, I will ascend into heaven. I will exalt my throne above the stars of YAHWEH. I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north: 14 I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like The Most High. 15 Yet you shalt be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit.
Jude 6: And the angels which kept not their first estate, but left their own habitation, He has reserved in everlasting chains under darkness unto the judgment of the great day.
Luke 10.18: And He said unto them, I beheld Satan as lightning fall from heaven.
Revelation 12.7: And there was war in heaven: Michael and his angels fought against the dragon; and the dragon fought and his angels, 8 and prevailed not; neither was their place found any more in heaven.9 And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceives the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.
2 Peter 2.4: For if YAHWEH spared not the angels that sinned, but cast them down to hell, and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved unto judgment...
Matthew 25.41: Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, you cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels.
Genesis 6.1: And it came to pass, when men began to multiply on the face of the earth, and daughters were born unto them,2 That the sons of Elohim (fallen angels) saw the daughters of men, that they were fair. And they took them wives of all which they chose. 3 And YAHWEH said, My spirit shall not always strive with man, because he also is flesh: yet his days shall be a hundred and twenty years. 4 There were giants (Nephilim) in the earth in those days; and also after that, when the sons of Elohim came in unto the daughters of men, and they bore children to them. The same became mighty men (Greek mythological "gods") which were of old, men of renown. 5 And YAHWEH saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.
Note: The 'sons of elohim' referred to in this last passage are actually fallen angels who left their first estate (heaven) and came to earth. Here they actually took wives from among the people on earth and had children with them. These children are the source of the "giants" - actually a unique race often referred to as the Nephilim. They were half human, half angelic. It was some of these offspring that David fought and killed (Goliath). This is NOT a 'fairy tale'. It is recorded as absolute Truth in the Word of YAHWEH.
We must be careful not to confuse YAHWEH's true angels with those that pretend to be His angels, or with fallen angels - evil, demonic spirits.
The potential consequences can go far beyond what you might think. In these days we are warned that some will come to us "masquerading as angels of light" - to deceive even the elect of YAHWEH, if possible. Many refer to these fallen angels as "demons".
2 Corinthians 11.13: For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ. 14 And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light. 15 Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works.
